Have you. ever wondered what the "The Twelve Days of Christmas" song means?

Believe me I have.

It turns the lyrics was used as a 'code song' or catechism song to teach young Roman Catholics about heir faith. At a time when practicing Roman Catholicism was banned in England from 1558 until 1829.

The number Twelve (12) in the song represents The Twelve Fruit of the Holy Spirit.

True Love signifies Jesus Christ because love came to us on Christmas day.

'The Partridge in a Pear Tree' represents Jesus Christ because He was willing to sacrifice His life.

The two Turtle Doves stand for the Old and New Testament.

The three French hens represent Faith, Hope and Love.

The four calling birds are the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
The Five golden rings stands the first five books of the Old Testament that describe man's fall and the chosen nation Israel.

The six geese a-laying are the Six Days of Creation.

Seven swans a-swimming represents the Sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit namely Wisdom, Understanding, Council, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety and Fear of the Lord; 1Corinthians 12.

The eight maids a-milking stand for the Eight Beatitudes.

Nine ladies dancing represents the Nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit namely Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness and Temperance. Galatians 5:22-23.

Ten lords a-leaping signifies the Ten Commandments.

The Eleven pipers piping Stands for the Eleven Faithful Apostles.

The Twelve drummers drumming symbolizes the Twelve points of belief in The Apostle's Creed.

Last eve I passed beside a blacksmith’s door
And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime:
Then looking in, I saw upon the floor
Old hammers, worn with beating years of time.

“How many anvils have you had,” said I,
“To wear and batter all these hammers so?”
“Just one,” said he, and then, with twinkling eye,
“The anvil wears the hammers out, you know.”

And so, thought I, the anvil of God’s word,
For ages skeptic blows have beat upon;
Yet though the noise of falling blows was heard,
The anvil is unharmed . . . the hammer’s gone.

When i was 8 or 9 years as of the time of this story i want to share with you.

My siblings and i got back from school and informed our mother of payment of fees. That the deadline was set for the next day and failure to pay our fees will lead to us being sent out of school.

My widowed mother with five children calmly said she has heard us but first we should go and inform our Father. Our father here did not mean our biological father but our heavenly Father.

We went into our room and knelt and told God that we needed our fees to be paid. And we said Amen with so much faith believing He has heard us. And we came and told my mum that we have informed Him.

She asked us what God said when we told Him. And we said "nothing".
And she said lets wait and hear from Him.

My mother had no money to pay our fees.
That night, i heard her crying and praying and praising God for the money He is going to send the next day for our fees.

Morning came. She dressed us up for school. Gave us breakfast and stepped out to get us snacks for school.

There was a knock on the door.

I opened and there was a man at the door.

He asked if my mother lived here. We answerd yes.

And he said "give this to her"

We asked him for his name and he said he is Angel that God sent him.

Honestly, we were shocked.

Mum came back almost immediately and we told her that God sent an angel to bring this to her.

She ran out to meet who came. And turned out he was one of our church members.

Who said God instructed him to bring the money to us that morning.
Our fees was paid miraculously and there was leftover for other stuff.

I ask, where is our faith and trust in God as christians?
We have lost it somehow.
We have allowed the issues of life to overwhelm us. Why?
Have you forgotten who your heavenly Father is?
The earth is His and the fullness thereof.
Have you not seen in the Bible that God shows up when situations are tough?

I beg us, if we are born-again christians, begin to go back to God for answers. Tell Him everything that bothers first before any other person hears of it.

And if you are yet to give your life to Jesus Christ, this is an oppurtunity for you to do so.

God truly cares for us. He hears us when we call on Him in spirit and in truth.

Call on God today and believe without doubt in your heart that He has heard you.

God bless you.

One night I dreamed a dream.
I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene, I noticed footprints in the sand,
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
When I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,
"You promised me Lord,
that if I follow You
You would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during
the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most,
You have not been there me? "

The Lord replied,
"The times when you have
seen only one set of footprints,
is when I carried you.

"Trust in Him at all times; he people, pour out your heart before Him: God is a refuge for us. (KJV)

"O my people, trust him all the time. Pour out your longings before him, for he can help! " (TLB)

"Trust God, my friends, and always tell him each one of your concerns. God is our place of safety." (CONTEMPORARY BIBLE)

You can't open up to someone you don't trust.

Likewise, you can't pray to a God you don't trust.

Many of us only pray and trust God only when things are going well and when things aren't so well, we lose our trust and become shaken.

We even wonder if God will hear you if you tell Him what's bothering you.

But, God is telling us to "trust in Him at all times" . "Just trust me in the good and in the bad time"s.
Did He not say He will be with you in times of trouble? ; all He needs from you is trust.

* Absolute dependency on God.

* Absolute confidence on God.

* Total believe on God without wavering.

* Not having option B; you just believe God will work something out anyhow.

He said "I Am the God of all flesh is anything to hard for me?" No!!!

Lets go back to Psalms 63:8.

"... Pour out your heart before Him"

Many of us pray or talk to God reserving some parts of our prayers. Why?

"OK let me tell Him this one and forget about this other one after all, He sees my heart; agreed!"

He wants to hear from you, ask and it shall be given to you.

Read what Psalms 37:5 says:

"Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass"

Talk to God like you talk to you earthly father. Tell Him what's bothering you, how and where its so itching and hooking you.

He knows but tell Him everything.

Don't hold back for He wants to reason out the situation with you. Read JOB 13: 3 and ISAIAH 1:18.

Finally, God is a refuge, a place of safety.
When you pray, trust Him to help out and bring it to pass.

God Bless you and you begin to trust Him more.

Your breakthrough should never take your place of service to God.

Be blessed by God in what ever capacity He has blessed you with. But, be humble before Him because your achievements mean nothing to Him; instead, your constant service to Him with all you have achieved in life means so much to God.

Ask yourself, what is my place of service in the house of God?

What is my contribution towards the advancement of God's kingdom?

Some of us forget about God when He has blessed us but when things where not so rosy, we where found in His house constantly serving Him.

Some of us even take our place of service for our own selfish interest.

Remember Moses, he was the meekest man on earth. God gave him the ministry to lead his people and he was still meek. He would have been puffed up and forget why he was called to lead and begin doing what he pleased.

In this life we are living, don't allow your position in the society hinder, stop or become an excuse of you not serving God.

Start serving God with everything in you; your strength, money, car and with all He has blessed you with.

But, remember your heart of service to God matters too. It should be done joyfully, willingly and not grugingly.

Music connects people. It brings the world together. True!

Imagine singing one of Don Moen's songs, "I am the Lord that healeth thee..." Dah dah dah dah... And you sing away.

Then a total stranger taps you and asked:

"Who is the singer of that song?"

"And you answered "oh! Don Moen"

"Really?! Have heard of him. I didn't know he sang a song sounding so beautiful; spirit lifting."

And before you know it, you are chatting away with someone you haven't met before.

Believe me, it has happened to me on several occasions.

In the same way, we can connect to God with music.

The Psalmist said "...O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel" (Psalms 22:3).

God enjoys our singing praises and worship to Him. It connects  us to Him spiritually. His presence overshadows us and He dwells in our praise.

In 2 chronicle 20:1-24, God instructed King Jehoshaphat to tell the people to only praise Him and watch Him fight the war for them. (This will be someone's portion to all life's challenges, in Jesus name; amen.)

It sounds foolish; right? But that is what God instructed them to do. And in the midst of the praise; God worked wonders.

Praise and worship God always. Whether everything is going well or not. And watch Him work wonders.

Like most of us watch in some of our Nigerian home movies, when a native doctor (herbalist) wants to consult his god. He will first of all sing praises to the god before incantations just to get his attention.

Where and who do you think they copied it from? Our God.

Our God dwells in praise. You connect and get His attention easily through praise. (Psalms 100:1).

Praise this our God today with all your heart, mind and soul.

Even before you think of asking God anything in prayer, thank and praise Him for what He has done before , for what He is about to do and for what He will do. Jesus thought us this too in "Our Lords prayer" . ( Matthew 6:9-13).

Remember, if you won't praise Him, He will raise up stones to do that for Him.

God forbid! Would you allow this?

Praise God!

The spectacular rock-hewn churches in Lalibela, Ethiopia was constructed by King Lalibela in the 12th century.

It was a quest to create a new Jerusalem when the Muslim conquest paused christian pilgrimage to Jerusalem.

There are eleven churches that are assembled into three groupings; namely, the Northern, Eastern and Western groups.

What's more intriguing is that the churches were not contructed with blocks but chiseled out from a rock of monolithic blocks. Wow!

Imagine all the hours of hard labour and chiseling with bare hands. And something this beautiful was created. I wish I could visit this site.

Do you know the story of Apostle Mathew? One of the men called by Jesus Christ to be one of His disciples.

If no. Here is his story. Life after Jesus ascended into heaven.
Apostle Matthew and the angel.
Matthew was not the first to be called by Jesus to be his disciple; instead it was Simon Peter. Though his book is the first book of the new testament.

Mathew was a tax collector when Jesus saw and asked him to follow him (Mathew 9:9).

His fathers name is Alphaeus. As of the time Jesus met him, he was living in Capernaum.

Matthew followed Jesus for His preaching to the people and he witnessed the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ.

Mathew wrote the first book of the Gospels in the New Testament. Making references to the prophecies about Jesus from the old Testament.

He went on to Persia and Ethiopia preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.

About his death, some reports say he was murdered in Ethiopia while some say he was not martyred.

Mrs Belinda sat at her daughter's graduation with tears rolling down her cheeks.

Her friend, Bukky, who sat beside her noticed and asked "Belinda, why are you shedding tears on Joyce graduation? You should be smiling instead"

Mrs Belinda replied: "Bukky you don't understand. Am shedding tears of joy and gratitude. I was supposed to die 'five months ago'.

"What?!" Bukky exclaimed. And you are telling me now?

"I didn't want to disturb you with my troubles" replied Mrs Belinda.

"Ok ; but, can you at least tell me what really happened? Asked Bukky.

Mrs Belinda took in a deep breath like one that climbed the stairs of a tower and began her story.

"I was diagnosed of having brain tumors multiplying rapidly. The doctor said I had five months to live.

Mrs Belinda sat at the doctors office looking nervous.

The door opened and a young man about the age of 33 years stepped in.

"Mrs Belinda, nice meeting you again.
Its been three weeks since our last meeting.
I went through the test result and even sent it to one of our Specialist.
It doesn't look good"

"Doctor, what is it?"

"You have a rare terminal disease called lampington disease. Its the rapid multiplying of tumors in the brain.
From our results here, its shows you have just five months to live.
Am sorry Madam."

"We could carry out a brain surgery to buy you more time".

Mrs Belinda looked at the doctor; smiled and said "hmmm...this is not my portion in Christ"

"Madam, I would advice you go home and decide if you will carry out the surgery or enjoy life to the fullest for the next five months"

Mrs Belinda replied "Doctor, I will not undergo the surgery. Moreover your test result isn't saying the truth about me"

"Madam, I could refer you to another doctor for another test but I can confidently tell you he would say the same thing. This is the truth of your test am holding here."

"Doctor, that might be the truth to you but to me, its a fact about me not the truth.
I am going to live more than five months and beyond and attend my daughter's graduation ceremony.
The God I serve will see me through".

The doctor stared at her for some minutes and at last spoke up, "ok then Madam, I guess our meeting is over. I hope to hear from you concerning your decision".

Mrs Belinda went home that day. Knelt by her bedside and began to pray fervently.
She read the word of God daily and claimed the promises in it.
Read books on healing.
Listened to tapes on healing.
Praised God joyfully for answers to her request daily.

Her faith in God was so strong. Nothing could shake it.
She went about her life happily. Not even her children knew what was going on with their mother.
Oh! What a great faith.

Exactly Five months.

She went back to the same doctor to run another test and scan on her again.
This time around, something miraculous had happened.

"This can not be!" Exclaimed the doctor.
Mrs Belinda what did you do?

"What Doctor?"

"The test shows no trace of any brain tumor. Unbelievable!"

"Mrs Belinda, I have to refer you to one of our specialist for his own result. Please."

"No problem doctor" said a smiling and laughing Mrs Belinda.

She went and came back with the results.

Her doctor was so bewildered.
"This is beyond me" he said.

"Doctor, I told you my case is different. I knew my God cannot fail me. He said in His word that "I shall not die"; He is a God that does the impossible".

The doctor was dumfounded, speechless and shocked. While Mrs Belinda was busy singing, rejoicing and praising God for healing her.

Bukky spoke finally. " this is way out of this world. You mean you got this news and you where busy joining me to prepare for my daughters wedding. You are unbelievable. What a great testimony"

"So when is the thanksgiving party? You know it has to happen and am planning it."

Mrs Belinda laughed but before she could reply, her daughter was announced as the best graduating student.

Grace is sufficient for all, but just like Paul asked "should we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid!".

As a believer, you have the power to overcome sin.

The Holy Spirit in you will always tell you that you are doing or about to do something that is wrong.

Sin is enjoyable for a moment but its after effect is like the aftershocks of an earthquake; which is more disastrous.

Have you ever meditated and imagined these scriptures?

Proverbs 26:11

As a dog returns to his own vomit,
So a fool repeats his folly.

2 Peter 2:22

But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,”and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”

Imagine a dog eating food that is not good for its stomach and it vomits it out. And stands to still eat up the vomit. Unbelievable! Shocking!!

Don't you think it will fall sick because of the bad food? Eating its own vomit again?

As born-again believers we said NO to sin the moment we gave our lives to Jesus Christ and before we know it we are back to the same sin we said no to.

When this happens, think about yourself as the dog that has gone back to its vomit.

Let this word of God dwell in you and help you stay away from sin.

Well, this is mine that I decided to share.
The Holy Spirit will give you yours as you study the word daily.

So, when next you are tempted to sin, about to sin or have already sinned: think on the dog eating back its vomit. Disgusting right? Yes! Very.

God bless you! I mean YOU!!

Chief Edet tapped the container of snuff with his right thumb starring at Okon with a stern look, his eyes darkened out of anger. “My son you are blabbing, we have not heard anything” Chief Edet yelled.
Take the list given to you by Chief Okuko and return after four market days with the requirements, and then we will talk.

Okon left Ikot Ndueeh with a heavy heart. What have I gotten myself into? He kept asking himself.

The distance between Ikot Ndue and Anueki was just a stone throw, but Okon walked through the paths lost in his thoughts. He took a decision to sell his only land close to the akam hill to raise some money.

The day of the Marriage was set.

The entire village gathered at Chief Asam’s compound to witness a one of a kind traditional marriage.

Music drinks and food kept some people merry, while others were worried and lost in heated debate.

Okon held Alice.
He looked at her lifeless body, she was made to sit close to him and tears welled up in his sunken eyes.

He remembered how loving and understanding she was. A beautiful, lively and jovial lady.

Okon could still hear the voice of the Traditional birth attendant, when she screamed in agony and he ran into the hut to see his son John wrapped in the hands of the Mma Maternity the traditional birth attendant and Alice corpse on the mat. She had bleed to death due to prolong labour.

Esther, a village maiden tapped Itiat and said “this serves him right, why should he keep someone’s daughter without paying her bride price? Let him dance to the music. Look at his face, he is crying”

Shut up! Itiat interrupted, what do you know? You are just jealous because Okon left you for Alice.

Listen to me “I will never marry” if the family refuse to bury their daughter I will bury her myself.

When dusk fell and the crowd had retired to their different homes. Chief Edet Called Okon out. When they got to the palm tree by the pathway leading to the entrance of Chief Asam’s compound.

Chief Edet said “this is Chief Edem,Chief Akan, and Chief Ibat. We have heard that our daughter is dead “tell us; what are your plans? Okon out of exhaustion slumped.

Sitting here in a banking hall, waiting to carry out my transaction.

A word was dropped in my spirit:

"Everything happens for a reason; agreed.

But you can make things happens in your own reason according to His will for your life. "

How? I asked. Through:

Prayer + Praise + Determination + Focus + Thanksgiving = things happening in your own reason.

Psalm 37:5 ESV

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.

That's it!!! Committ your way to God and let Him act in your favour.

Let Him make things happen in your life for your own reason according to His will for your life.

Am so blessed by this word; I believe you too.
