A story is told of a gardener who served in a large estate in northern Italy. The garden was well-groomed and tended to,that visitors came just to see the garden.
On this particular day, the gardener was conducting a visitor through castle and beautiful garden. Lunch time came and the gardener invited the visitor join him and wife.
The visitor commended them for the tending to the garden so beautifully. He then asked, "By the way, when was the last time the owner was here?"
"About ten years ago." The gardener replied.
"Then why do you keep the gardens in such an immaculate, lovely manner?" Asked the visitor.
The gardener replied, "Because am expecting him to return."
"Is he coming next week?"
The gardener replied, "I don't know when he is coming, but I am expecting him today."
The owner of the estate didn't come back that day. And the gardener was still tending to its owners garden.
This story applys to us as Christians to tend for our lives and the lives of others while waiting for our Lords return.
The period of waiting for the Lords return, is a time we should engage in active service to God. Beginning with our selfs; taking out the weeds in our lives. Its a time to win souls for the Lord. It is a time for spiritual awakening.
Luke 19:13 says "...occupy till I come."
The day and time of our Lords return has not been us (John 14:2-3). How the the Lord's return will be has been told us and one of it is from 1Thessalonians 4:14-18
"For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words."
Many have said He is no longer coming. The have made a mockery of His return. (2Peter 3:3-4).
As Born-again Christians we should not be moved and distracted by all the going on. Remain steadfast. Let your life-style be a reflection of Jesus that attracts others to Him. Just be ready for His return.
For those of us who are not in Christ or have backslided or still struggling with secret sins, its not late to be ready for Him too.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:19)
3. Believe that Jesus died for you and God loves you. (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through the prayer of faith and if you have prayed this prayer before, you just need to rededicate your life back to Jesus. (Revelations 3:20)
Congratulations!
